Recently published long-term data confirms what has been known for some time: that the addition of the platinum chemotherapy drug cisplatin to radiotherapy can reduce the risk of death in patients with cervical cancer by as much as 23%.
The combination treatment regimen has long been used as a potential cure for cervical cancer, but this most recent research is the first to indicate just how effective this combination is in reducing the risk of death among this patient population.
The 23% risk in death was derived from retrospectively comparing the outcomes of women with cervical cancer who received both cisplatin and radiotherapy against women treated with radiotherapy alone.
