According to recently published research, an ancient concoction of four Chinese herbs known as Huang Qin Tang can not only ease the digestive problems associated with chemotherapy side effects, it may also boost the efficacy of the chemotherapy and help speed healing.
A Yale University research team found that the concoction of extract of peonies, skullcap, liquorice and fruit from a buckthorn tree (referred to as PHY906) contributed to the protection of the lining of the digestive system in lab mice with either colon or rectal cancer while helping the lining heal more quickly.
These results have only been achieved in the lab. Still, they are promising and should encourage more research.
